Development of the human face and surrounding structures occurs during embryonic development. Dental decay and/or trauma can also contribute to the need for orofacial rehabilitation and treatment.

Later in life corrections to the dento-facial structures are often sought through Orthodontics, oral implantology or dermal/sub-dermal therapies.  Motivation for these corrections can vary by individual however many times are driven by the desire for improved appearance, preservation of youth and the restoring of function.
